All about Matariki

Last week it was Matariki and we did rotations between all of the classes.  In Te Re Pakeha we did interactive talking pictures it was pretty cool.  Watch this space for a movie when we finish them.

Here are some facts about Matariki.
  • Matariki is also the name of the Maori new year
  • You can see the stars of matariki most of the year, but they disappear from the night sky in Aotearoa in the late april and the stars appear again in winter{in the late May or early June}
  • Matariki is the name of the biggest star.  She is the eldest sister and guides her younger sisters to their places in the sky.
